FAQ'S

How does a child come to Youth, Inc.

Boys Program: Boys whom the Hamilton County Juvenile Court considers being low risk for committing violent crimes may be placed in our facility. This allows the probation department to assess how well the child is adapting to adult supervision in an unlocked environment, and also helps to reduce the potential for over-crowding at the detention center.

HOLMES HOUSE FOR GIRLS: Girls are referred to the program through The Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.

Am I allowed to see my child while he/she is in Youth, Inc.

Boys Program: First you must have name entered on the approved visitor list with the child’s probation officer, you must be age 21 or older. A visitation schedule will be given to you at the time your child enters the program.

Girls Program: All visitors must be cleared by the child’s Ohio department of Jobs and Family Services caseworker.

May I bring clothing or other items for my child.

Boys Program: Clothing and personnel items are provided, some items, prescription medication, and seasonal coats. Program supervisor will discuss special needs.

Girls Program: Any and all things must have the approval of the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services caseworker.

What if there is a family emergency? May my child get a leave of absence for a couple of days?

Boys Program: There could be situations in which a resident may take a leave, but that is made after careful deliberation between the court, the Executive Director and the Program Supervisor.

Girls Program: The Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services caseworker, The Executive Director, and the Program coordinator will make that determination.

How long will my child be there and what is in store for him/her?

Boys Program: The length of time is at the discretion of the Hamilton County Juvenile Court. The average time is one to three weeks. We provide a full day of structured activities, including school, to help prepare them for making better decisions in the future.

Girls Program: The Department of Jobs and Family Services caseworker, Program staff and other appropriate parties will determine the duration of the stay. While here completion of school, job readiness, daily living skills, and independent living skills are a few of the things that will be going on.
